Geometric Process Control wins British Computer Society Medal for Innovation

Curvaceous Software Ltd. are delighted to announce the award of a Medal for Innovation from the British Computer Society (BCS) IT Industry Awards 2008. Curvaceous’s products implement their novel Geometric Process Control (GPC) technology which offer process plants from oil refineries to pharmaceuticals reduction in operating costs and improvements in efficiency in a range of different ways. GPC provides visualisation and information-extraction without maths from large amounts of existing operational data substantially increasing the level of process understanding which is a necessity before any significant process improvement can occur. It leads to real-time control and optimisation models for batch and continuous processes being created and implemented entirely without mathematics. Process Alarm setting and Alarm Management has been unified with process control and the achievement of management objectives for the first time resulting in far fewer false alarms, much lower Annunciation Rates and Safer Plants. Process Alarms and Alerts have been given a scientific basis for the first time. Costs are much lower than previous methods so that even small plants can afford these advanced money-making applications. GPC technology is already in use delivering a steady stream of process efficiency improvements in over 120 blue-chip companies in Europe and North America.

The innovative software products that constitute GPC have been recognized by prestigious professional awards on numerous occasions. The GPC technology has won awards from the European Process Safety Centre (EPSC), the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), the Chemical Industry Association (CIA) and The Institute of Engineering and Technology.

The BCS IT Industry Awards, supported by Intellect and NCC, are the hallmark of success amongst IT practitioners today.  The cross industry awards form a central element to the BCS’ professionalism in IT initiative and recognise, promote and acclaim excellence, professionalism, innovation and the outstanding achievements to which individuals and groups contribute.

Alan Pollard, BCS president says: “The standard of entry has been exceptionally high this year and the judges faced a daunting task to select those that had that something extra.  Each year the quality of entrants and the standard of submissions seem to outshine the previous and everyone taking part this time can feel justifiably proud of their work.”

David Clarke, BCS chief executive says: “This winners and medallists in this year’s Awards are examples of best practice and professionalism and reflect the fact that technology is an integral and expected part of everyday life and is at the heart of literally every business.  In the current economic situation it is rewarding to see that IT is continuing to lead through innovation and deliver real business benefits.”

Dr. Robin Brooks, the Managing Director of Curvaceus Software Ltd. said “We are delighted by this news and the recognition by the BCS and its judging panel of our achievements and innovations.”
